Frequently asked questions

Do I need a VPN app?

No. The line comes out in London, so Google, WhatsApp and Slack just open. Nothing to install, nothing to switch on, and nothing for the firewall to find.

What happens when the day's data runs out?

You slow down, you don't stop. After 1 GB on Standard or 10 GB on Pro you get 5 or 10 Mbps for the rest of the day. It resets at midnight UTC, 08:00 in China.

How do I install it?

Scan the QR code from your email in your phone's eSIM settings. It takes about a minute. Do it on Wi-Fi before you fly: the QR code may not load from inside China.

Will it work on my phone?

Any phone with eSIM from 2018 on: iPhone XS and later, Galaxy S20 and later, Pixel 3 and later, most recent Huawei, Xiaomi and OnePlus. No eSIM? Order the posted card, or rent the router.

Do I keep my own number?

Yes. This is data only. Your normal SIM stays in and keeps its number; calls, texts, iMessage and WhatsApp carry on.

How fast is it?

100 to 300 Mbps down on 5G in the big cities, about 120 ms back to the UK. 20 to 80 Mbps on 4G elsewhere. These are measured on our own trips. The speed tests page has all of them.
